The Versova bridge is constructed on the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder, connecting Mumbai to Surat. The construction for the Versova bridge started in 2018, soon after the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) found the old bridge weak and not compatible for utilization anymore.

Notably, only one of the total 4 lanes has been opened to the public yesterday. The rest of the bridge at the Mumbai-Surat corridor will be opened shortly, as per reports.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted on Monday regarding the 918-meter-long balanced cantilever bridge, “Starting from the 27th of March, 2023, we will be opening a recently constructed 918-meter-long balanced cantilever bridge on Varsova creek, consisting of four lanes, which will provide significant traffic relief to the Mumbai-Surat corridor, particularly across the Varsova creek."

To reach Gujarat or Surat from Mumbai and Thane, people have to cross the Versova Bay at Ghodbunder. The construction of the new Versova bridge could prove to be a welcome relief for the commuters in the Mumbai-Surat corridor.
