Details of The Crime:

29-year-old Mr. Bajaj lured old American citizens into fraud by impersonating himself as a specialist working in the field of fraud prevention on behalf of top-notch banks, online companies, and retailers.

Bajaj himself and one other person who conspired with him told the victims with conviction that they were engaged in the conduction of a sting operation on behalf of their firms and that the victims must help in such a noble pursuit.

They gathered money from the victims on the pretext that when the sting operation would be completed within a few days, the amounts would be returned safely to their accounts. The victims were asked to send cash or cheques to a location in California that the victims believed to be Bajaj’s residence.

Punishment Award:

The criminals have been sentenced to 33 months of prison by the Newark federal court and 2 years of supervised release. The matter was heard by District Judge Kevin McNulty. Apart from this, a fine of USD 2.4 million has also been imposed on fraudster Mr. Bajaj.
