The National Health Authority (NHA) announced on Thursday that DigiLocker, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's authentic documents exchange platform, has completed its second level of integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
DigiLocker is a key initiative of Digital India, India's flagship program aimed at transforming the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. DigiLocker fits into the areas of Digital India's vision of providing citizens with a shareable private space on a public cloud and making all documents/ certificates available on this cloud.
DigiLocker's secure cloud-based storage platform can now be used as a health locker to store and access health records such as vaccination records, doctor prescriptions, lab reports, hospital discharge summaries, and so on.
DigiLocker had previously completed level 1 integration with ABDM, allowing its 13 crore users to create ABHA or Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts. With the latest integration, users will be able to use DigiLocker as a Personal Health Records (PHR) app. In addition, ABHA holders can link their health records from various ABDM-registered health facilities, such as hospitals and labs, and access them through DigiLocker. Users can also scan and upload old medical records to the app. They can also share specific records with ABDM-registered healthcare professionals.
Dr. R. S. Sharma, CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), highlighted the benefits of this integration for users, saying, "Under the ABDM, we are building an interoperable health ecosystem. The various applications from both the public and private sectors that integrate with ABDM are assisting in expanding the scheme's reach to more users and adding more functionalities. DigiLocker is a well-known and trusted app for accessing authentic documents. As a result, it is a significant advancement because users can now use it as a PHR app and reap the benefits of paperless record keeping."
"We are proud to extend the benefits of ABDM to our 130 million registered users," said Shri Abhishek Singh, MD & CEO, of Digital India Corporation, of the integration. He further expressed that, “The platform has already assisted in the generation of nearly 85 thousand ABHA numbers. We are confident that with the health locker integration, more people will be able to easily link and manage their health records digitally. DigiLocker aspires to be ABHA users' preferred health locker."
All DigiLocker registered users can now access the health locker services.
