PM Narendra Modi is seen wearing a jacket at the Rajya Sabha which had been gifted to him by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) during the event titled ‘India Energy Week’ observed at Bengaluru. The message that the jacket constructed from repurposed bottles carries is that of sustainable development and ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. Under a mission which has been titled ‘Unbottled’ PM Narendra Modi has also launched a mission under which all uniforms at the Energy Week event were to be constructed from repurposed bottles. The IOC stated that 28 waste plastic bottles go into the making of one set of uniforms.
Garments Manufactured Out of Plastic Waste: The Process
The process of making garments manufactured out of plastic waste involves collection of waste plastic bottles and then crushing them into small pieces of plastic. These pieces are crushed again and again until they become fine pellets and then, they are melted. After filtering the molten plastic they are spun into fine threads which are then used to make garments manufactured out of plastic waste. Using this very method, PM Narendra Modi has set a target of recycling 100 million plastic bottles which will be a huge step towards safeguarding against the harmful effects of non- biodegradable plastic upon the natural environment.
